Original Music
Kathy’s original music draws on the singer-songwriter tradition and her experience in ensemble performance and music education. She develops her songs through local performances and collaboration with other writers in the Pacific Northwest.
Songwriting
Kathy writes personal, reflective songs with an emphasis on melody and lyrics. Performing them at open mics gives her a way to try out new material and keep developing it beyond the first draft.
Influences
Classical training, choral music, jazz harmony, and worldbeat rhythms all inform her songwriting. Her experience on bass, keyboards, guitar, and percussion gives her several ways to approach a song’s rhythm and accompaniment.
Songwriter circles
Local open mics and songwriter circles are part of Kathy’s writing practice. They give her a place to share work in progress, hear other writers’ songs, and develop material through live performance and collaboration.

Budapest West plays worldbeat music across the Pacific Northwest.
Kathy sings and plays bass, keyboards, guitar, and hand percussion with the band.
The group plays at wineries, festivals, coffeehouses, and other live music venues.
About
On stage and in the classroom
Kathy’s teaching experience includes elementary and middle school music.
She holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Puget Sound, with Washington State endorsements in Music and Choral Music.
